E-Learning TKAM Part 2

Intrapersonal:

c. Write a diary entry for a major character of the novel.

Atticus Finch

Dear Diary,

Today, I taught Jeremy the true meaning of courage. Jeremy has always been the hasty one, and I believe that until today, his conception of courage is that of one with power and bravado. This has led to him, in certain cases, putting up a brave front in front of others. But the lesson today, I believe, finally made him realize what courage truly is. A few days ago, Dubose, through Jeremy, called me a nigger lover. Although I did not take that into account, Jem got insulted and went and cut off all the camellia buds in Dubose's garden. As a punishment,, I sent Jeremy to read at Dubose's house everyday. I did this for two reasons. Firstly, I wanted to help old Mrs Dubose and distract her so that she could quit her addiction from morphine. Secondly, I wanted to teach Jeremy a life lesson about courage from Mrs Dubose.

However, today, Mrs Dubose left the world in peace, in knowing that she left this world beholden to nothing at all. She had gotten rid of her Morphine addiction and left this world clean. She was truly a brave woman. When I told Jeremy this, I think he finally figured out what courage truly means; That courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. Mrs Dubose also left him a camellia, which, I presume was her way of telling Jem that everything was alright. Today, Jem learnt a lesson that I presume and hope that he will remember for the rest of his life.
